One Dead, Two Bodies Recovered

KANNUR / KASARGOD: Even though there was a lull in the heavy monsoon downpour, mishaps were reported on Sunday as well.One person died in a rain-related incident at Eramam North near Payyanur. Bodies of two persons who had been swept away in flood in Kasargod district in the past two days were recovered on Sunday.

R K Kumaran, 75, of Eramam North in Taliparamba taluk died after coming into contact with a live electric line. With this, the rain-related casualties in Kannur since the onset of monsoon on June 6 rose to nine.In Kasargod, the body of Unnikrishnan, son of Ganapathi of Chittarikkal, who was swept away on Friday, was recovered.The body of Sarada, 50, wife of Kunjiraman of Pandikkandam, who had been washed away in Payaswini river on Friday night, was also recovered by local people.

Four houses were fully destroyed and six houses damaged in Vellarikkundu, Hozdurg and Manjeswaram taluks in the heavy rains that lashed the region.

In Kannur, two houses in Iritty taluk and one in Thalassery were destroyed on Sunday. 20 houses were damaged in the district. Mudslides pause threat in hilly areas and the Village Officers have been kept on high alert.
