SHRC Demands Report on Assault in Guruvayur Temple

THRISSUR: The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) member R Natarajan, on Monday, directed DIG S Sreejith, chief investigation officer (CIO) of the commission, to probe the alleged torture of devotees in the Guruvayur Sree Krishna Temple. The DIG has been asked to submit the investigation report before September 29.

The decision was taken at a sitting of the commission held here on Monday following a complaint filed by social-activist George Vattukulam. Vattakulam alleged that the state home department had been trying to sabotage the case to protect the staff involved in the incident.

Earlier, the commission had directed Guruvayur ACP to probe the incident and take action against the accused.

However, the State Human Rights Commission was not satisfied with the action taken by the police. The police had submitted a report stating that no case had been charged and no person had been arrested as there were no complainants in the case.
