Electrician Held for Anti-Modi FB Post

KOLLAM: An electrician has found himself in trouble for allegedly posting a Facebook comment against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The arrested has been identified as Rajeesh Kumar,24, a DYFI member of Karukone in Anchal for his alleged abusive comment against Modi.

The arrest was based on the complaint by a local BJP leader. Kumar has been booked under the Information Technology Act which has provisions to punish those sending messages which are offensive, false or created for the purpose of causing annoyance or inconvenience.

“Besides IPC 153 A has been charged for communal disharmony. The accused was produced before the court on Tuesday and was remanded for 14 days,” Anchal Circle Inspector Rameshkumar P V said.

DYFI protested in Anchal town against the arrest. “The arrest is against the freedom of expression and we will continue the protest in the coming days,” V P Prashanth, district secretary of DYFI, said.

This is not the first time that the police arrested people for commenting against Modi in the social media. Men from Goa and Gurgaon were arrested for similar offence a few months before the general elections.
