Vehicle Service thru AC Road Hit

ALAPPUZHA: The vehicle service through the Alappuzha-Changanassery (AC) road was  suspended on Tuesday after a major portion of the road submerged in flood water.

The Kerala State Transport Project (KSTP) executive engineer directed the police to prevent vehicles from entering the road after the water reached dangerous levels. The heavy rain that lashed Kottayam and Pathananmthitta districts increased the water flow through the Achankovil and Pampa rivers.

The water submerged the stretch from Mankombu to Manackachira near Changanassery. Some areas in Mankombu to Pallthuruty were also submerged but the police allowed slow driving of vehicles through the route. The water-level reached three-feet high in Manackachira, Poovam bridge, Parackal, Kidangara, Mampuzhakari, Thekkekara and Nedumudi. Until Monday night, the police prevented the traffic of two-wheelers, cars and jeep. The vehicle service to Kainakarai, Mankombu, Muttar, Edathu and other parts of Kuttanad was also hit.
