CM Post is for Leading Ally, Says Murali

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The chief ministership post in an alliance is meant for the leading partner in the alliance and not intended to be given to alliance partners, K Muraleedharan MLA has said.

Inaugurating the Farmers Day celebrations organised by the Karshaka Congress here on Sunday, Muraleedharan said that the partners of the UDF alliance were staking claims to the chief ministership post very often.

“Some think that even the chief ministership post for the Congress is at their mercy. This is not true and the leading party in the alliance should hold the post. There is no landlord-tenant relationship in the UDF as in the LDF. The Congress contested in only 80 out of the total 140 seats in the last Assembly elections. The party contested in those seats in which the possibility of winning was less. The ‘sure’ seats were given to the allies. Some of the portfolios currently held by Congress like Forest are relatively unimportant and even the Electricity portfolio has become unimportant because no new power projects are being implemented. Portfolios which are directly related to people are being held by the other UDF partners,” Muraleedharan said.

He said that there was no need to highlight the Kasthurirangan report issue during he Lok Sabha election. It led to the defeat of the Congress candidate in the Idukki seat.
