KOCHI: Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala on Thursday will visit Leeba, the 29-year-old dalit woman at the Ernakulam General hospital, who was assaulted by the police a few days ago, said the communication issued by MLA Hibi Eden’s office.
According to the communication, Hibi Eden visited Leeba on Thiruvonam day and promised financial help for her treatment.
He assured that he would initiate every step to allot money from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for Leeba, who is reported to be afflicted with an injury on the spine. In connection with the case, a Sub Inspector has been transferred as instructed by the Home Minister. But agitations have started mounting from several quarters asking the government to suspend the SI.
The communication has also informed that it is based on MLA’s request the Home Minister is visiting the woman. The MLA is also reported to have asked him to initiate measures against the officials at the earliest. It was in the first week of this month, Leeba, a housemaid in a doctor’s house was arrested for allegedly stealing gold ornaments.
