'Parliament Excites World Countries'

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Several countries are keen on knowing the working of the Indian democracy, said Raghunandan Sharma, Adviser, Bureau of Parliamentary Studies and Training (BPST),   here on Thursday.

At a ‘Meet the Press’ here, he said bureaucrats and lawmakers from abroad coming to take a look at the Parliamentary processes and procedures expressed wonder at the smooth functioning of the system. “The lawmakers and bureaucrats from South Africa, Kenya, Singapore, East Asian countries and the Gulf countries have commended the working of our democratic system,” he said.

Asked whether the training provided to members of Parliament had reflected on their performance in the House, he said several luminaries and experts from various sectors conducted classes and delivered lectures, but the attitude of the MPs is important. Ever since the BPST was instituted in 1976,  there had been little political interference in its working, he pointed out.
