No Place for 'Glasnost' in CPM: Kodiyeri Balakrishnan

ALAPPUZHA: Reiterating the known stand of the CPM, politburo member Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has said that there will be no place for Gorbachev’s concepts of ‘glasnost’ and ‘perestroika’ in the CPM.  Briefing mediapersons about the  proceedings of the delegates’ session of the CPM state conference, he said that he did not think that VS had breached the party discipline by taking a break from the session. He said being a cadre party it was of paramount important to maintain discipline in the party.

“Only a disciplined party can lead the people, win elections and bring revolution,” Kodiyeri said.

“VS had told the concerned that he was going out for a while. There is no restriction on people who wants to go out for some time. Not only VS but some others had also gone out for different purposes,” he said, while answering a query whether VS had not breached the party discipline by walking out of the session.

“It was you media people who created a feeling that an earthquake is going to happen. You told that VS would meet media at 4 pm. Did he tell you that he would meet you,”Kodiyeri said in a relatively cool manner.  Apparently after the deliberation, the move to convene the state committee was also given up. Kodiyeri told mediapersons that he did not think there was any necessity to urgently meet the state committee. Such a meeting is unwarranted and unusual, he said.  He revealed that the state secretariat would meet on Sunday afternoon.

Asked whether the party would call for explanation from VS for taking a break for the whole day while the delegates’ session was in progress, he said there were the central committee and politburo to examine such matters. He also pointed out that the party in Alappuzha was capable enough to examine whether the party cadre had made any demonstrations of dissent in front of VS’s residence.

“They might have gone there to enquire what has happened since you people have reported that VS had left the session,’’ he quipped.

‘VS HAS NOT MADE COMPLAINT’

Asked whether VS had asked the party to withdraw the secretariat’s resolution against him, Kodiyeri said VS had not made any complaint so far. On the question of not allowing VS to offer felicitation at the inaugural after the hoisting of the flag, Kodiyeri said if he wanted he could have addressed the workers immediately after the  flag hoisting. But he did not make any such demand.  About the releasing the resolution to the  media, Kodiyeri said that since a letter reportedly written by VS had appeared in a newspaper, it was the duty of the  party to respond immediately.  ‘’We cannot allow anarchy in the party. It was the secretariat’s decision’’ he said.  While pressed for his response on whether VS would be attending the delegates’ session on Sunday, Kodiyeri replied: ‘’You could better ask VS for clarification.”
