KEA's Three-day Meet on Development Begins Today

KOCHI:A three-day national seminar on ‘Kerala’s Development in Retrospect and Prospect’ will begin here on Friday to discuss a range of issues, including higher education, agriculture, public health, infrastructure, finance and remittance.

  The event, the first annual conference of the Kerala Economic Association (KEA), is scheduled to be held from May 8 to 10 at the Department of Economics, S H College. The conference is supported by the KINFRA.

  M A Oommen, honorary professor at the Centre for Development Studies and chairman of the 4th State Finance Commission, will deliver the presidential address at the conference. It will be inaugurated by T P Sreenivasan, former Ambassador of India to the United Nations.

  The second day (May 9) will see a panel discussion on ‘What Ails Kerala’s Higher Education’, at which AICTE former chairman Dr R Natarajan; National University of Educational Planning and Administration, Department of Educational Finance HoD Prof Dr Jandhyala B G Tilak; and Kerala University former Vice-chancellor Dr B Ekbal will give their expert views. Dr Sreenivasan, who is also vice-chairman and executive head of the Kerala State Higher Education Council, will chair the session.  On the day-2, a session on ‘Agriculture and Allied Sectors’ will be held.
