Youth Commission Arranges Bail for Tribal Woman

MANANTHAVADY:The State Youth Commission has arranged bail for Anitha, a tribal inmate in Kannur Central Jail. She was earlier denied bail as she had no wherewithal to meet bail conditions.

The High Court granted bail to Anitha in March 2015. However, in the wake of a complaint filed with the Youth Commission, K Sivaraman. member, State Youth Commission, has held a sitting at the women cell where she was lodged.

“There are many women from marginalised communities lodged at different jails in the state who do not have the means to legal assistance,” Sivaraman said.

The Commission visited the in-laws of Anitha and made necessary arrangements for the bail. Anitha’s husband is also lodged in the Central Jail here. The duo was arrested from Mananthavady in 2010.

The Commission has also taken up Geetha Babu’s case, another tribal woman from the district who has been denied bail.“No sections in the society take up the case of people from marginalised communities lodged at jails in the state whereas criminals and anti-socials bend the law to escape punishment. The situation is highly condemnable,” he added.
