P J Joseph Seeks Centre's Intervention

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Water Resource Minister P J Joseph on Wednesday urged the Central Government to find a political solution for the Mullaperiyar issue at the earliest.

“An IIT Delhi study has pointed out that if 60 centimetres of rain is received in 48 hours, the water level in Mullaperiyar dam may rise from 136 feet to 160 feet. Such a threat still exists. The Government is not ruling out the dangerous state of existence of the dam. Only with Central Government intervention a political solution can be arrived at,” said Joseph, while speaking to media after flagging off the first consignment of drinking water, organised by the irrigation department, to the flood- hit areas in Chennai.
