KOCHI: Rising athletes in the state can heave a sigh of relief as the School Games Federation of India (SGFI) is set to officially confirm Kozhikode as the venue for the National School Athletic Championship, now scheduled to be held between January 25 and 30, 2016.
“The Union Sports Ministry has already spoken to the SGFI about the schedule mentioned in the letter sent by the Kerala government. It has been accepted in-principle by all parties concerned. The official declaration may come in one or two days. The meet will start either on January 25 or 26,” Kerala State Sports Council president Anju Bobby George told Express on Tuesday.
The meet is scheduled to be held at the Medical College Stadium, venue of the recent state meet. Anju said the state sports officials were gearing up for the event even while uncertainty prevailed over the venue.
“We have been preparing to make the national meet a grand success, although no decision was made. The latest development has added to our resolve,” she said.
