Retired Dist Judge to Investigate Sibi Death

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  The Cabinet on Wednesday decided to appoint retired district judge D Sreevallabhan to conduct a judicial probe into the custodial death of Sibi at Maranmgattupilly in Kottayam. The government had earlier decided to carry out a judicial probe into the death. The commission will probe whether the deceased was subjected to third degree measures or torture in addition to investigating whether his arrest was illegal.

Call to Utilise Fund

The Cabinet on Wednesday issued directives for the Thaddesa Mithram scheme to utilise the `400 crore received by the World Bank-aided Kerala Local Government Service Delivery Project (KLGSDP) owing to the change in rupee-dollar exchange rate.

Other Decisions

A decision was taken to revise the salary of employees with the Kerala State Sports Council with effect from the date of approving the 9th Commission recommendations.

An area of 16.06 cents of government land at Kavanoor village in Malappuram has been given to Ayurveda department with permission to use for setting up an Ayurveda dispensary.
