'Quality of Assembly Debate on the Decline'

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  It was indeed a matter of great concern that there was a steady decline on qualitative standards in the debate on various topics in the Assembly, Deputy Speaker Palode Ravi said on Saturday.  He also said that the media should play a more responsible role in highlighting the legislation-making process and issues affecting the people, instead of going after the mundane and ordinary.

Addressing a meet-the-press programme here,  Ravi called for a consensus between the ruling and Opposition fronts in the Assembly to avoid disruption of the Assembly proceedings.

“Both sides should come forward to set a model for other states to evolve a healthy practice. At present, it is sad to note that the state is lagging far behind to comply with the task set by the Speaker’s conference to hold business for at least 100 years in a year,” he noted.
