ALAPPUZHA: Members of the Kerala team entered the finals in five categories of 500 metre rowing, which was held at Vembanad lake at Mannanchery near here on Wednesday. Ditymol Varghes in women’s single scull, M T Nimmy and Honey Joseph in women’s coxless pair, Thara Kurian in women’s double scull are the female entrants to the finals.
In the men’s category Midhun G Mohan and Abhiraj A entered the finals of light weight double scull and Arun T S, Anish T A, Saju S and Subhash K K in men’s coxless four categories. Kerala team officials said that they expect medals in all these categories with the hopes riding high on the women’s teams.
The finals will begin at 9 am on Thursday. An exhibition of Kerala’s own snake boat race will be arranged for the rowing participants and officials from other states in the after noon. The medals will be given away at Pagoda resort in the evening.
The canoeing and kayaking competitions will begin on February 9.
