Lasyotsavam Dance Fest to Begin Tomorrow

THRISSUR: The three-day-long dance festival conducted by Lasya Akademi of Mohiniyattam at Punkunnam named ‘Lasyotsavam’ will be held at Regional Theatre here from February 27.

As part of the festival, two interactive sessions along with demonstration will be conducted by the artists taking part in the event. Several renowned and emerging dancers from across the country would be taking part in the festival, danseuse Pallavi Krishnan, artistic director of the Akademi said.

She said that the Akademi had been conducting the festival annually for the past few years in Thrissur with the intention of promoting classical dance among public and the festival would emphasis on both tradition and an open attitude in terms of innovation, to bring about high quality in classical dance forms.

“To make the youngsters more interested in classical dance forms, as a part of the festival, on Friday, well-known Bharathanatyam danseuse and choreographer Priya Venkataraman, who based in Delhi, will hold an interactive session along with demonstration on the dance form at Sree Keralavarma College from 10 am till 11. 30 am. Students interested in classical art forms from different colleges and schools in Thrissur could attend the demonstration,” Pallavi Krishnan said.

After the formal inauguration of the festival, at 6 pm Priya Venkataraman will perform a Bharatnatyam recital. On February 28, emerging Kuchipudi artist from Hyderabad, Sandhya Raju, will conduct an interactive session at Chinmaya Vidyalaya in Kolazhy near here at 10 am and she will perform at 6 pm.
