Toddy Shop Murder: Cops Mull Assam Visit

ALAPPUZHA:In connection with the investigation into the murder of a toddy shop employee at Thakazhi near here, the police team may go to Assam to hunt the suspect on the basis of certain information collected from his friends.

Chengannur CI R Binu, who is investigating the case, said the special squad had cinched the suspect had telephoned a friend at 11.30 pm on the day the death took place. Three people who allegedly had connections with the suspect had also been taken into custody, he said, adding that two more, who have been identified as having links with the suspect, will also be taken into custody.

The police team will leave for Assam soon, he said.

The body of the deceased Ramachandran was found in a defunct freezer in the toddy shop last Friday, and Akashdeep, who had been working with him till the day, had gone missing.

According to reports, the suspect had purchased a SIM card providing fake ID card of a Malayali in Kottayam district. A sum of `2000 from the pocket of Ramachandran was found stolen as well as `400 from the cash box.
