Siby Case: Action Sought

KOTTAYAM:The CPM on Friday threatened that the Left Democratic Front (LDF) would intensify protests if the governments failed to register murder cases against the police personnel involved in the alleged custodial death of the 40-year-old Dalit labourer Siby.

Party district secretary V N Vasavan said that  the police was trying to protect those involved in the incident.

“It was from the police lock up that Siby was admitted to the Kottayam Medical College hospital with fatal head injuries. The eye witnesses confirmed that third degree methods were used by the police on Siby right from the spot of his arrest,” he said.

The police had turned down the request made by Siby’s parents to provide him medical aid, he said. Vasavan said that the government was reluctant to register a murder case against K A Georgekutty, the then station house officer who is under suspension in connection with the incident.
