Sea Erosion Posing Threat to Life

THRISSUR:The rampant sea erosion caused by  high tides has not only resulted in the damage of sea walls all along the coastal belt of Thrissur but have also posed danger to several houses situated within the vicinity of the sea coast. The sea erosion was felt with most intensity in the Munakkakadavu, Anchangadi, Kadappuram and Chettuva regions, with the fishermen reporting difficulty in even venturing out for their daily fishing expeditions.

“In the estuaries, the sea has progressed to such an extent that the sand dunes have accumulated all around the junction. Currently, only a small passage way is available for the fishermen to venture out into the sea. If they get stuck in the sand pits, their boats will capsize,” said Mujib, a fisherman in the Kadappuram area.
