KOCHI: The services of various government departments will soon be available on a single portal that will act as a service delivery channel, besides providing information. At present, the government portal only provides information about the various departments in the State. The public have to visit different portals for a single purpose. Soon, the State Service Delivery Gateway (SSDG), under the National e-Governance Plan, will provide all the services on a single portal.
The Kerala State IT Mission (KSITM) has been entrusted with the task of integrating the services of various departments. All the government departments, universities, PSUs, local self-government bodies, autonomous institutions and the other establishments that receive grant from the government will be integrated into the portal.
KSITM director K Mohammed Y Safirulla said that it was a Herculean task to integrate all the services which were on different portals. The integration has already started, and it will be a continuous process.
“At present, the people do not know where to go for a particular service as the departments are having their own portals. By making all the services available on a single portal, the goal of providing easy and convenient service will become a reality,” he said.
A unified portal is needed for providing information and delivering services to the public. After standardisation tests and quality certification, the SSDG will be integrated with the National Portal.
At present, the Kerala Government’s portal is maintained by the Information and Public Relations Department, with the technical support of the C-DIT. Once the integration is completed, the single portal will be maintained by the KSITM.
According to Mohammed Safirulla, initially services of the major departments that are used regularly by the public will be integrated. Efforts are being made to include the services of all the major departments in the single portal within six months.
Chief secretary Jiji Thomson has given instruction to all the heads of departments, institutions and statutory bodies to provide the required information to the KSITM. Each department will have to update the details and verify the e-services regularly.
