Light Metro: Rajagopal Backs Sreedharan

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  BJP leader O Rajagopal has said that those opposing metroman E Sreedharan on the light metro issue were not speaking for the public.  Rajagopal said in a statement here that the people had high hopes over the light metro project announced for the capital with assistance from the Union Government.

“The people welcomed the announcement that E Sreedharan would lead the project implementation. But now some forces are trying to scuttle the project. These forces are led by the Finance Department infamous for rampant corruption,” he said.

“Sreedharan opposed a monorail project in the capital citing the geographical problems and its technology which is not suitable for long-distance travel,” Rajagopal said.

“While monorail costs Rs 14,000 crore, the cost for light metro project is only Rs 4,200 crore which would be ideal for the state which faces a huge financial crisis. The opponents of Sreedharan are corrupt politicians and officials,” he said.
