Tribal Child Died of Malnutrition

NILAMBUR: The death of a five-year-old girl in Uchakkulam tribal colony, near here, on Monday has once again raised questions about the health condition of tribal children to the fore. According to primary report, malnutrition led to the death of the daughter of Shashi and Bindhu of Mundakadavu tribal colony.

The autopsy report of the child points out that severe malnutrition has caused the death. The child died at the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital. She was shifted to the medical college four days ago from a private hospital at Nilambur. The weight of the five-year-old girl at the time of death was only 5 kg.

“We will look into the matter seriously. The girl was also suffering from various diseases including cerebral palsy,” DMO Dr V Ummer Farooq said.
