Bribery Case: 'Sabotage of Probe Complete'

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan has said that with the removal of Vigilance ADGP Jacob Thomas from the supervisory role  in the probe against Finance Minister K M Mani in the bar bribery case, the sabotage of the probe was complete.

He said in a statement here that strong  mass agitation would be organised against this move.

Jacob Thomas was an officer who was conducting the probe braving the threats of Mani and the government, the Opposition Leader said.

Jacob Thomas had taken a strong stand during the stage of Quick Verification.

Now in the stage of filing the charge sheet, he has been excluded from the charge of the case, he said.

Achuthanandan said Mani had been making a strong demand that Jacob Thomas should be removed from the charge of the investigation. To mount pressure on the government, Mani had said that he would not be joining the UDF propaganda jatha as captain.

Now, to pacify him Jacob Thomas has been removed from the charge of the case. It is certain that the government would ensure that Mani’s name didn’t figure in the charge sheet, he said.

Now it has become clear that what Oommen Chandy and Ramesh Chennithala meant when they said in advance that Mani was innocent, the Opposition Leader said.
