Committee Soon to Look into Nurses' Issues: Minister

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:The male nurses in the state would get a new uniform if the State Government goes ahead with the proposal to modify the existing one. 

Health Minister V S Sivakumar said on Tuesday that uniform of the male nurses would be modified and discussions were being held in this regard.

He said this while inaugurating the National Nurses’ Day celebrations here. The Minister also mentioned that a committee with additional director of DHS as Chairman would be constituted to look into the issues of nurses and nursing students.

Additional Director of Nursing Service and Nursing Council registrar would be the other members of the committee, he added. Sivakumar said that the government would look into the issue of the nurses’ workload and also speed up their recruitment.

The State Nurses Award was also distributed at the function.

Head Nurse at Kanjirapally General Hospital Soja Baby, Head Nurse at Kozhikode Medical College M Geetha and CHC Thekkumbhagam (Kollam) Nurse K Shantakumari were presented the awards.

 K Muraleedharan MLA, DME Praveen Lal, DHS N Sreedhar, Nursing Education Deputy directors Y Prasanna Kumari and M G Shobana, Assistant director of nursing services Ambili Prasad and Kerala Nursing Council registrar Valsa K Panicker were present.

Sivakumar also said that 831 staff nurses in the  Medical Education Department would be recruited soon. Stating that the government had given much importance to the nursing sector, the Minister said that around 1,000 posts have been created after the government came to power.
