Heavy Rain Hits Life

ALUVA: The pre-monsoon rain, accompanied by gusty winds, lashed the rural areas of the district on Tuesday evening, hitting normal life and leaving a trail of destruction. Traffic on the national highway, especially at Aluva, Kalamassery and Edappally, and on the city roads was severely disrupted for several hours, following the heavy rain.

In the rural areas of the district, houses were damaged after trees uprooted in the wind and fell on them. Also, plantain, areca-nut and coconut trees were uprooted.  Traffic was disrupted on various sub-arterial routes also after trees fell across the road. At some places, trees fell on electric lines, bringing down the poles.

With the pre-monsoon showers gaining strength across the State, the temperature has come down significantly. The downpour provided the much-needed relief to the city dwellers from the oppressive summer heat that had sent the mercury soaring to 36-38 degree Celsius.
