Banner of Revolt Within UDF

MALAPPURAM: The IUML leadership has vehemently criticised the group war in the Congress party in the state.  The high power committee meeting of the party convened at Panakkad asked the UDF leadership to convene an emergency UDF meeting on Monday to discuss the issues affecting the front.

The meeting observed that the internal issues in the Congress and UDF are affecting the performance of the government.  It has also affected the image of the UDF government.  The leadership emphasised that it would be difficult for the government to move ahead without solving the issues. The IUML also criticised the controversies over the zonal rallies planned by the UDF.

“The zonal rallies alone will not improve the image of the government.  The issues in UDF should be resolved before the zonal rallies.  There are issues in the UDF at present.  But there is no need to reschedule the zonal rallies,” P K Kunhalikutty said.  IUML state general secretary K P A Majeed said that the internal issues in the Congress would adversely affect the UDF system.  The spat between the senior leaders in Congress is disappointing.  “We have decided to ask UDF convener P P Thankachan and Chief Minister Oommen Chandy to intervene a meet in the issue and to solve it.  There is no need for a front if planning to go ahead like this,” K P A Majeed opined.  The party has sought the opinion of state president Panakkad Hyderali Shihab Thangal, who is visiting Malaysia at present.  IUML senior leaders E T Muhammed Basheer and Panakkad Sayed Sadiqali Shihab Thangal also attended the meet.

JD(S) to Keep Distance from BJP, cong

Kalpetta: The Janata parivar entities cannot be part of any alliance led by BJP or the Congress, said Janata Dal(S) state president Mathew T Thomas MLA here on Sunday.  Inaugurating the valedictory of the party’s district convention at the ‘Arangil Sreedharan Nagar’, he also said the BJP-led NDA government would meet the same fate as the previous UPA government if it pursued ‘anti-people’ policies. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi is dancing to the tune of the corporate sector while totally neglecting the common man. The main objective of the merger of Janata parivar is to fight the corrupt Congress and BJP. So it is unthinkable for the proposed entity to be a part of the UDF which is knee-deep in corruption and bribery scandals, he said.
