THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A change in style or leadership will not rescue the UDF Government from public ire, Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan has said. The “balance sheet” of the fourth anniversary of the Oommen Chandy Government is a tale of corruption, nepotism and anti-people policies, he said in a statement here on Sunday.
Congress leader K Antony’s corruption charges is the best “certificate” that Chandy Government has received when it enters the fifth year in office. The support of KPCC president V M Sudheeran and Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala to Antony are proof for the rampant corruption in the government, he said.
While assuming power, the Chandy Government declared its motto as development and care. Of late, “care” has been dropped from official statements which speaks for itself.
“Chandy showed care only to solar scam accused Saritha S Nair and tainted cop Salim Raj. The Chief Minister’s Office was a haven of fraudsters and the corrupt,” he said.
VS alleged that Chandy misused his office by assigning the Advocate-General to appear for Salim Raj in the Rs 450-crore worth land deal case. Chandy also provided money to Saritha to settle the cases against her while she was in jail.
The names of a good majority of ministers in the Chandy cabinet were ‘’noted’’ in Saritha’s diary which is proof of ‘’being immoral’’. Ministers K M Mani, K Babu, Ramesh Chennithala and V S Sivakumar had active role in the bar bribe incident. The Chandy Government is helping Mani and Babu to escape from punishment in the case.
A massive corruption is alleged in the award of the Vizhinjam port project to the Adani group. The multi-crore bribery charges shows that the Chandy government has become the ‘B’ team of the BJP Government at the Centre.
VS said the four-year Chandy rule has made life difficult for common people. The price of essential commodities have escalated.
