MVD Books 2,172 Vehicles in April

KAKKANAD:The Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) has taken action against 2,172 vehicles and collected Rs 32 lakh as fine in the first month of the financial year, underscoring its tough stance against traffic offenders.

As many as 723 motorists were booked for not wearing helmet, 243 for over-speeding, 189 for overloading, 44 for not removing sun control film and 140 for irresponsible transportation of goods.

The violations were detected mainly in Aluva, Kalamassery, Tripunithura, seaport-airport road and western Kochi.

“We are all set to tighten law enforcement in the coming days. Special squads will be deputed at all the major junctions, with focus on public transport vehicles,” said RTO K M Shaji.
