SAI Student Suicide: NHRC Seeks Report

ALAPPUZHA: The National Human Rights Commission  has asked the Chief Secretary, Inspector General of Police (Ernakulam range), Alappuzha district police chief and the secretary of the Sports Authority of India, New Delhi to send reports within two weeks on the suicide incident at SAI centre here.

The Commission has observed that human rights violations happened in the incident. It has also asked for a report on the status of the investigation conducted by the police and the state sports  secretary and the SAI Director General.

A team of NHRC led by acting Chairperson will visit Alappuzha from May 21 to May 22 to conduct a direct inquiry.The team will meet the three trainees who survived and parents of the deceased girl, the  Alappuzha District Collector and the investigation officer of the case.

Leader of Opposition V S Achuthanandan visited the at SAI centre and the house of Aparna Ramabhadran  and the three trainee athletes undergoing treatment at Alappuzha Medical College Hospital on Wednesday.
