Handwritten Bible to be Released

THRISSUR: With the aim of inculcating the message of the Holy Bible, a handwritten Bible (Peshik Aramaic) spread over 3,876 pages of the Assyrian Church of the East (Chaldean Syrian Church) will be released on May 24 at the nearby Chelakkottukara Mar Aprem Church, as part of its year-long Platinum Jubilee valedictory celebrations. The handwritten piece has been copied by the faithful from the Malayalam version of the Bible written in Peshik Aramaic. The hand-written Bible would be released by the Catholic Bishop, Mar Raphael Thattil of the Thrissur Archdiocese. “The valedictory function of the Platinum Jubilee will be presided over by the Locum Tenens (Patriarchal Vicar) of the Holy See of the Assyrian Church of the East, Metropolitan Mar Aprem,” he added.

The daunting task of copying the Bible (old and New Testaments) by hand, published by the Bible Society of India was completed in 12 days, he added. The task of copying the Bible by hand was shared among the 475 families of the Chelakkottukara parish and 1,100 persons actively participated in the endeavour.
