Govt Clarifies on Status of Classes V, VIII

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state government has clarified that classes V and VIII will continue to be part of the upper primary and high school sections respectively.

The clarification came in the wake of media reports citing a High Court order which directed that class V and VIII be made part of the lower primary and upper primary sections respectively.

According to the General Education Department, it was found that some schools were denying transfer certificates to students on the basis of such reports.

“The order of a single judge bench of the High Court came in a petition filed by a section of private school managements. Similar cases are under the consideration of the Division Bench of the High Court,” a press release from the General Education Department said.

“Until the Division Bench gives its verdict, the status quo of Class V being a part of the upper primary section and class VIII belonging to the high school section will continue,” the press release added.
