KANNUR: Two children drowned off Payyambalam beach in Kannur on Monday.
The victims, Rizwan, 16, son of Abdul Rahiman and Shinab, 13, son of Gafoor, along with two others, had gone for a swim at the beach in the noon. All were residents of Chalad here.
The strong currents took the teenagers in drowning them.
Though the other two children managed to swim to the shore and sought help, the team from Fire Force and Coastal Police could do little to rescue them.
After frantic search, to about a kilometre from the shore, the bodies of Rizwan and Shinab were fished out, at about 4 pm and 6 pm, respectively.
