Railway Campaign a Boon to Kozhikode Station

KOZHIKODE:The Railyatri Upbhokta Pakhwada, Passenger and Customer Facilitation Fortnight being observed by the Indian Railway between May 26 and June 9, has come as a good news for the Kozhikode Railway Station. As a part of the campaign, which is being celebrated all over the country, the station will get a WiFi facility, more food outlets and ticket rate display boards.

As a part of the observance the new flyover connecting the third and fourth platforms and the executive lounge at platform number 1 will be formally inaugurated. The foundation stone for the shelter home connected to the station will be also laid during the fortnight observance. Railways has launched the campaign to win the hearts of the customers and employees by taking result oriented actions at all the stations.  

Chief Commercial Inspector P Rajagopal said that BSNL has been entrusted to setup the WiFi facility at the station. Once the facility goes functional, he said that the passengers will be able to avail free internet connection on all the four platforms of the station.

The new flyover, whose construction works have been completed, will ease the plight of the passengers who alight at platform number 4. At present, the passengers in the last compartments of the train have to walk a long distance to reach the flyover connecting platform number 4 with others.According to the railway officer, the executive lounge will help senior officials and VIPs to rest comfortably during their visit to the station. The shelter home will offer accommodation facilities for the passengers especially for women and children during night.

Besides, as part of the campaign, a comprehensive cleanliness drive will be organised at the station. The drive will be held on May 26 from 7 am to 11 am. The drive aims to ensure cleanliness at the station. Rajagopal added that a she toilet will be inaugurated on platform number one as part of the drive.

Kozhikode MP M K Raghavan and senior railway officials will attend the function.

Meanwhile, officials said that steps are afoot to make the station passenger friendly by ensuring hygiene using the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) fund. To attain the comprehensive development of the major station in Malabar authorities are looking forward to join hands with various public sector companies, freight community, voluntary organisation and passenger associations.

CSR fund will be utilised to set up new granite benches at the platforms and new chairs in the waiting rooms. Waste collection bins will also be set up on the platforms, waiting rooms and retiring rooms. The light system will be improved on the platforms and parking areas by tapping the potential of solar and wind energy. New fish and luggage trolleys, sanitary dispensers and touch screen information system will be set up.
