Kerala LSG Polls: UDF not to Support Independent Candidates

Outwitting the SNDP gameplan to field Independent candidates and secure the support of mainstream political fronts, the UDF has decided not to back such candidates.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  Outwitting the SNDP gameplan to field Independent candidates and secure the support of mainstream political fronts, the UDF has decided not to back such candidates in the upcoming local bodies polls.

“Coalition partners have been directed to ensure that inductees from outside contest in the election symbols of the respective political parties only,” party sources told ‘Express’. The politically wise move is based on an assessment that the SNDP leadership would mop up its nominees elected on Independent symbols under various parties in the event of the formation of a new party or the proposed third front by the community organisation. The  BJP leadership in the state has gone on on record that it will be supporting SNDP nominees irrespective of the symbols on which they are contesting. The LDF is also keen to field a large number of candidates from the Ezhava community, while the polls  are set to determine the fate of its most important support base.
