Temple committee to move SC for probe

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple administration committee will approach the Supreme Court seeking a probe into the reports of suspected theft of valuables from the temple.

The administration committee said the decision was taken based on some media reports and it was unaware of any loss.

A statement from the committee said Upparnam Narasimham Kumar quit the post of Periya Nambi on December 17, 2015. But, the committee does not know whether a physical verification of valuables was held at that time. Panchagavyathu Nambi Vasudevan Narayanan had earlier given a written request to committee chairperson that the tenure of Periya Nambi be extended till next festival as the former lacked sufficient experience.

As per this, Periya Nambi’s tenure was extended and he quit the post only on April 22, 2016. There wasn’t any stock checking between December 2015 and April 2016. The committee said the temple rules prescribe that the Muthalppadi (temple treasurer) should receive the valuables from the outgoing priest and entrust it with the successor after preparing a mahassar.
