Securing over 21 lakh votes, the BJP has emerged the third largest party in the state. By scripting a historic victory at Nemom, the NDA has heralded the advent of a third political alternative to the people of Kerala. Though the number of seats secured by the NDA was limited to just one, party could come second in seven seats.

In three constituencies its candidates could secure over 50,000 votes. If both fronts had not conspired against the NDA it could have won in more than ten seats. The NDA is the real winner in this election. BJP alone could garner 21,62,583 votes (10.75 per cent) and its main ally BDJS secured 7,80,133 votes - (3.88 per cent) of the total votes polled. The NDA secured 30,20,673 votes which is 15.02 per cent of the total votes polled.

Compared to the 2011 polls, NDA garnered a nine per cent rise in vote share which is 20 lakh more votes. LDF could get only 8, 90,000 votes in addition despite its sweeping victory. BJP has recorded a gain of 12 lakh more votes from what it polled in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls. While seven candidates finished in the second slot K Surendran lost by a mere 89 votes at Manhjeswaram. The people’s verdict against the UDF has turned out to be favourable for BJP. NDA is the only front which could claim growth in all the 140 constituencies. Our vote share has recorded three to four-fold growth in a majority of seats.
