Subahani from Kerala had links with Paris attackers: NIA

KOCHI: Thodupuzha-native Subahani Haja Moideen, a key accused in the IS module case, confessed to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) that he was familiar with two persons involved in the Paris terror attack that claimed 129 lives in November last year.

During interrogation, Subahani, who had earlier fought for the IS in Mosul, Iraq, provided details of several foreign fighters including the French national who led the IS unit that operated in Mosul.

The officials said it was Abdelhamid who imparted terror tainting to foreigners including Subahani, while Salah Abdeslam was holding the post of commander of an IS unit.

Abdelhamid was killed by the French security agencies after the Parish attack, while Abdeslam was arrested is currently facing trial. However, Subahani claimed to have come to know about the involvement of Abdelhamid and Abdeslam in the Paris attack from news reports.

Subahani also confessed to have been part of a unit headed by a French national. “During his stay in Mosul, Subahani got acquainted with several foreigners who are members of the IS. Also, the commander of his units was a French national. However, no foreign agency has made official request to interrogate Subahani.

Subahani was arrested on October 6 by the NIA for allegedly leading operations of the South Indian module of the IS. Currently, he is lodged at the Viyyur Central Jail.
