KASARGOD: A Kasargod resident, facing charges of piracy and illegally screening new Malayalam movies, was arrested in Mangalore. Akhil C Nair, a native of Kuttipara in Bedadka, was arrested by the Anti-Piracy Cell on his arrival from Dubai at Mangalore International Airport.

The cell said the complaint was filed by Xincoz, the promoter of, an online movie releasing site.

According to the complaint, 'Njan Steve Lopez' by Rajeev Ravi was uploaded on Torrentz within hours of the movie being screened on, last year. However, the tracker system on the site spoted the piracy within 12 minutes of it being uploaded to Torrentz, and traced the crime to Nair in Kasargod. However, the movie could not be withdrawn once uploaded to Torrentz, and Xincoz filed a complaint with the Anti-Piracy Cell under the Crime Branch-CID of Kerala Police.

During the investigation, the cell found Nair often uploaded movies to Torrentz.
