Student attacked at University College

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A FIRST semester student belonging to the Scheduled Tribe community was attacked allegedly by his seniors at University College here.Cantonment Police have registered a case on charges of voluntarily causing hurt against the perpetrators who are reportedly SFI activists.

The first-year student, who was attacked, hails from Aryanad constituency represented by MLA K S Sabarinadhan. According to Sabarinadhan, the seniors students beat up the first semester student on Friday after he spoke to a girl student of the second semester. The student from the tribal community had joined the college barely a week ago.Calling it a clear case of ragging, Sabarinadhan said that the Scheduled Tribes Commission has taken note of the incident. Meanwhile, University College principal-in-charge  M S Vinayachandran said the college has not received any complaint from the student in connection with the alleged ragging incident. On the other hand, the girl student has registered a complaint against the tribal student accusing him of misbehaving with her on the campus. Meanwhile, SFI district secretary Prathin Saj Krishna denied that the student was ragged by SFI activists.
