KC(M) a Drying-Up Well: Francis George

KOCHI: In a befitting reply to his former leader K M Mani, K Francis George, the leader of Kerala Congress breakaway faction, said that Kerala Congress(M) has turned out to be a well with shallow aquifer (Urava Vattunna Kinar) which is nearing its end. Speaking to reporters at the Meet the Press organised by Ernakulam Press Club on Wednesday before announcing the new party, the son of Kerala Congress founder leader K M George, said that in an introspection Mani will be able to recognise the person who has most back-stabbed its allies in the history of Kerala Congress.

“I had never been a challenge to anyone in Kerala Congress. Mani should first check the history of Kerala Congress before claiming that I have back-stabbed him. Kerala Congress (M) is a drying well which is nearing its end. The political party should be of democratic nature. The party with one man’s autocratic style would split further and cannot exist for long,” said George.

Mani had recently compared the exit of some leaders from his party to pouring out a bucket of water from a well. When asked about joining the LDF, Francis George said there has been no direct talks in this regard and expressed hope that the KC(M) working chairman P J Joseph will also join the new party. “Talks are in the beginning stage and nothing regarding the seat sharing with the LDF took place. Joseph is an experienced politician. He is aware of the situation inside Kerala Congress (M) very well. We hope that he will move out soon,”Francis George said. He opined that the party workers disliked Mani’s move for a tie-up with the BJP which is against the rights of minority.  Francis George despised the hunger strike by Jose K Mani MP blaming the Union government for the fall in the price of rubber. “That hunger protest was not for the rubber farmers. It was planned for Jose K Mani and it was he, and not anyone else, who benefited from it. The condition of the rubber farmers continue to be same even after that protest,” he said.

According to Francis George, he was one of the first from the party who had demanded the resignation of Mani after an FIR was registered against him in the bar bribe case. “After the High Court observation against Mani, we insisted on Mani to resign. It was one of the factors which led to the resignation of Mani as finance minister,”he said.
