Repeal all Major Decisions Taken by Chandy Government: VS Achuthanandan

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  Coming down heavily on the Oommen Chandy government for its recent order permitting reclamation of paddy land, Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan has demanded repeal of all such decisions taken by the UDF government in its recent Cabinet meeting.

Referring to the Cabinet decision to withdraw the controversial order, Achuthanandan opined that the government was forced to withdraw the order after being caught red-handed.

Only when the next government would assume office that it would be known whether the government had given the land, where the state Secretariat was located, to someone, said Achuthanandan, taking a dig at the Chandy government.

“The government was forced to withdraw the order after being humiliated following the HC staying the same. But this alone will not do. Keeping the elections in mind, the Chandy government has given hundreds of acres of land through many such orders. All these orders should be urgently cancelled,” VS said at a press conference here on Wednesday.

He also referred to 150 acres of land being given at Chembu village in Vaikom.

“It has now come out that land has been given to appease religious and community organisations at Konni, the constituency of Revenue Minister Adoor Prakash. On March 4, the day when the elections were declared, about 18 acres of land was given to the Malankara Catholic Church, Orthodox Church, Bethel Marthoma Church, Catholic Church, Pathanamthitta diocese, Konni SNDP’s 1182 number branch, Thannithode SNDP 1421 number branch and Adoor Kurumbakara NSS Karayogam,” the Opposition leader said.
