50 people seriously injured as two buses collide near Trippunithura

Both buses over-speeding while negotiating a sharp curve, the accident occurred due to rash driving, officials said.

KOCHI: Around 50 people which includes children and women were seriously injured when the two speeding private buses collided with each other at Puthankavu near Trippunithura on Friday. The injured were shifted to the nearby hospitals in Thrippunithura, three persons were admitted to a Private hospital in Ernakulam and seven persons were admitted to the Kottayam medical college.

The incident occurred, around 9.00 in the morning, when Saranya bus which was coming from Kottayam side rammed with the ST Basil that going to Kanjiramattom from Ernkulam, while negotiating a sharp curve at Puthankavu.

According to the MVD officials both buses were in high speed even they negotiating the sharp curve. " The accident occurred when owing to the rash driving. As the road bus took the curve by covering the whole space the back side of Saranya bus hit St Basil and owing to the speed it hit on the passengers. Even the locals too have complained against the bus for rash driving,"said Dilip kumar, Joint RTO, Thrippunithura RTO office.

Meanwhile, the RTO department has reached a decision to suspend the license of both drivers with immediate effect. " As per the prima facia it is learnt that the accident was resulted owing to the rash and negligent driving. We will take take a case against both drivers and will suspend the license," Dilip said.
