NIA grills IS Kerala module

KOCHI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is carrying out the interrogation of the suspected members of the so-called Islamic State (IS) Kerala module, who held a meeting at Kanakamala in Kannur in October. And the NIA Court here had granted the NIA custody of the six persons the other day.

According to NIA officials, Manseed alias Omar Al Hindi, Abu Basheer alias Rashid, Swalih Mohammed alias Yousuf, Safwan P, Jasim N K and Ramshad Nageelan are being interrogated as part of the probe. It was on Tuesday that the NIA had been granted custody of the accused for five days with the permission of NIA court. NIA officials said the accused would be taken to various places as part of evidence gathering as well.
Even though the National Investigation Agency had interrogated them in custody earlier, following their arrest on October 2, more evidence regarding the group’s activities prompted the NIA to seek their custody again.

The NIA had the other day recorded the voice of first accused Manseed with the assistance of officials from CDAC, Thiruvananthapuram. The Central agency had recovered several audio transcripts from the laptops and mobile phones of the accused persons, which apparently belonged to Manseed.

Similarly, the National Investigation Agency found that money was credited to  Swalih Mohammed’s account from Syria. And the money was ostensibly made to recruit more persons to the terror outfit, besides procuring arms and ammunition.
