THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Comparing Islamic State (IS) terror group with the RSS, the Kerala unit of CPI(M) today alleged that both outfits were spreading communalism in the state by focusing on places of worship.

Calling upon the people to be vigilant on the issue, CPI(M) state Secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said both these groups were concentrating on shrines to strengthen their communal agenda.

Stating that "RSS was moving ahead with its Hindutva agenda while the IS with Islamic extremism," Balakrishnan said CPI(M) would take initiative to bring together the secular forces to fight these forces.

Talking to reporters after the three-day party state committee meet, he said programmes have been worked out to strengthen the party base in the state.

Efforts would be taken to bring more youths and women to the party, he said.

Presently the party membership in the state stood at 4.50 lakhs, he said.

It was also decided that during the next scrutiny of membership, to be taken on next year, "membership of
non-performing members would not be renewed," he said.
