Man dies trying to cross river as ferry services halted in Kerala due to hartal

The deceased has been identified as Kalesh, 32, Mannaruparambil house from Punnakkuthussery, Pulimkunnu. 

ALAPPUZHA: With the ferry services disrupted on Monday due to the hartal against demonitisation, a young man died as he tried to cross the river by swimming in Pampa River at Pulimkunnu in Kuttanad.

The deceased has been identified as Kalesh, 32, Mannaruparambil house from Punnakkuthussery, Pulimkunnu. 

According to Pulimkunnu police, the incident occurred at around 2 PM while he was trying to swim across the river. He collapsed and drowned after crossing half of the river. 

He chose to swim as ferry service was disrupted due to the hartal, said sources.

The Police and Fire and Rescue Services fished out the body and it was subsequently shifted to Taluk Hospital mortuary in Pulimkunnu.
