KOCHI: The Kerala High Court on Monday granted interim bail to N K Sakthivel, vice principal of Nehru College of Engineering, and an accused in the Jishnu Prannoy case.

Sakthivel was arrested by a special investigation team (SIT) with the help of Tamil Nadu police in Coimbatore on Sunday.

The court also criticised the police for arresting the accused while his anticipatory bail plea is pending. It is not fair for the investigating officer to arrest the accused while the bail plea was to be disposed few days later, it said.

The special prosecutor opposed the plea and submitted that there was no legal impediment in arresting the accused while the plea is pending, as there was no specific order from the court not to arrest him.

The court asked the petitioner to execute a bond of Rs 50,000 and two solvent sureties for the like sum. The court also directed the petitioner not to enter Nehru College.

The court also held that he shall not interfere in the day to day affairs of the college. It will consider the case on Tuesday.
