KASARGOD: Marwan Ismail (23), a resident of Trikaripur in Kerala's Kasargod district who left home to join the Islamic State, was killed in drone attack, according to a message received by his family here.

Ismail was reported missing by his family in May 2016 and was believed to be part of the 21-member group who left home to join the IS. They were suspected to be in Nangarhar, a province in Afghanistan partially controlled by the IS.

The message was sent to Ismail's family and a social worker from a Telegram account purportedly owned by Ashfaq Majeed, one of the members of the closely knit group.

This is the fourth death in the group led by Abdul Rasheed of Padna.

The deaths of T K Hafeesuddin, Yahiya, and Mursheed were confirmed by the same Telegram user.
