KOCHI: A 51-year-old man on Wednesday ended his life at Karuvelipady near Mattanchery here after hacking his wife fatally. The deceased are Nasiya alias Jancy,46, ‘Suhara’ and her husband P K Pareekutty alias Rafeek. Rafeek was found hanging from the ceiling of the hall while Jancy’s body was found dead in the bedroom.The couple’s three children - eldest son Jefrin,21, his brother Shefin,18 and daughter,13 - suffered grievous injuries as Rafeek attacked them with a machete before he hanged himself. They were rushed to hospital by the police who reached the scene around 1.30 am.
“The woman - Nasiya alias Jancy - died on the spot from a deep wound on the neck. Her body was found lying in a pool of blood,” an officer said.The attack appeared to be premeditated since Rafeek had reportedly bought the murder weapon some days ago.“The man had made the loop for hanging himself before going on the rampage. The machete was also bought a few days ago. Nasiya was the first one to be targeted before Rafeeq proceeded to the next room where the couple’s children were fast asleep,” said a police officer.
The trigger for the incident is yet to be established. “We are looking into the dastardly act from all angles. It appears quite unlikely the accused acted in the heat of the moment. He had even brought special food for the family for dinner,” police said.
