LDF meet gives clean chit to Kerala ministers K K Shylaja, Thomas Chandy

The Left Democratic Front has made it clear that it would stand by the two ministers facing different allegations.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Left Democratic Front has made it clear that it would stand by the two ministers facing different allegations. “The LDF is of the view that there is no point in the allegations raised against them,” front convener Vaikom Viswan told the media after the LDF meet on Friday.

Responding to queries on separate allegations against two ministers - K K Shylaja and Thomas Chandy - the LDF convener ruled out the charges. Though the court first made some observations regarding K K Shylaja, it was later expunged. The allegations against Thomas Chandy pertains to a time when the UDF was in power. Also, the minister has refuted the same in Assembly.

Viswan also referred to the SNC Lavalin case and how it was used by political opponents. The LDF has always taken an anti-corruption stance and will continue to do so. Responding to questions, LDF convener Vaikom Viswan said the confusion regarding medical college admissions were due to managements regularly seeking court intervention.

LDF to take out mega campaign

To take the LDF government’s achievements to the public and to expose the communal politics of the BJP, the Left front will take out two campaign marches in October.

A sub-committee has been formed, including nominees from all political parties in the front, to finalise the structure and pattern of the campaign marches at two zones from October 1 to 15. The march captains, the two zones and other aspects would be finalised by the committee.

As part of the state-wide campaign, the LDF plans to take the welfare measures enacted by the government to the people. “The BJP has been playing divisive politics to create communal polarisation. At the same time, the UDF is playing opportunistic politics. The march is aimed at exposing the BJP and the UDF,” Viswan said.

He said the UDF was slowly disintegrating with Mani group also left the front while there are issues within the JD(U).

KSRTC

Pensions in the Transport Corporation will be given on Monday while arrears would be cleared by September 30, said the LDF convener. Steps to revive the ailing corporation were discussed at the meet. Measures would be expedited to clear the debt through loan from a banking consortium.

Public distribution

The LDF has decided to ensure at least one cooperative outlet - run by any of the coop establishments or civil supplies - in each panchayat. Adequate measures would be taken to arrest the price hike.

‘Court verdict boosted LDF Govt image’

T’Puram: The High Court verdict discharging Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in SNC Lavalin case has boosted the Left government image, observed the CPM state secretariat. The court observation of picking and choosing Pinarayi vindicates the CPM’s stance in the issue. Political opponents have been using it as a tool for haunting Pinarayi and CPM for long. The court verdict adds more vigour to the Left government in its forward path, the CPM state leadership meet said. The state secretariat has decided to make LDF’s public meeting on Saturday against the anti-people policies of the BJP-led government at the Centre, a major success. As part of the national level agitations, the party will organise mass dharnas at local centres at 4 pm. The agitations are being organised raising six demands, including loan waiver to farmers, stop privatisation of PSUs, and steps to address additional burden due to GST. The CPM alleged the BJP has been trying to create communal polarisation across the country. “Efforts in this regard have started in Kerala also. There are steps to destabilise the Left government under the cover of the Central Government,” the CPM alleged.
