Sexual abuse charge: MLA cries ‘conspiracy’

 M Vincent MLA on Saturday accused the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) of orchestrating the entire ‘arrest drama’ and said the arrest was part of a political conspiracy.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: M Vincent MLA on Saturday accused the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) of orchestrating the entire ‘arrest drama’ and said the arrest was part of a political conspiracy. He made the allegation while being taken from the DySP office at Neyyattinkara to the magistrate’s residence.The police on Saturday had arrested the Congress MLA, against whom rape charges were raised by a 51-year-old woman.

“The CMO exerted pressure on the police to arrest me. I will resort to legal recourse to prove my innocence. My fight will continue until my innocence is proven,” Vincent told reporters. He also made it clear he will not resign from the MLA post. A huge posse of police was deployed at Neyyattinkara to prevent any untoward incidents. Tension prevailed in front of Neyyattinkara police station when Yuva Morcha workers tried to block the police jeep in which the legislator was being taken to the residence of the magistrate. 

The workers also tried to hurl rotten eggs on the police jeep. However, they were removed by the police team. Earlier, Youth Congress workers tried to storm into the police station demanding the release of Vincent. The workers were later removed and a case was registered against them. DYFI activists were also camping near the police station demanding the resignation of Vincent.
